GUITAR SERVICES

We offer a dedicated repair and maintenance service specializing in electric guitars and basses. With a focus on quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, the company offers a wide range of services, including string changes, setups, and more intricate repairs. Whether you’re a professional musician or a hobbyist, Verdant Guitar Works ensures your instrument stays in top condition and performs at its best.
STRING REPLACEMENT
We offer a string replacement service that goes a little further than simply replacing the strings, but is a more affordable option compared with a full setup.
With the strings off the guitar, it is cleaned and polished (where appropriate) and conditioner is added to unfinished fingerboards (rosewood etc). Lubricant is added to the nut and saddles before fitting the new strings. The new strings are fitted and stretched to improve tuning stability, then the guitar is tuned and intonation is checked and adjusted if necessary.
£25 excluding strings. We can supply strings at cost price or you can supply your own strings. As standard we fit D’Addario strings but can order other brands if preferred.
FULL SETUP
All guitars can be improved with a proper setup, even brand new instruments. Our aim when setting up a guitar is to improve its playability and get it performing as well as it possibly can.
Before starting work the height of the frets will be checked and we can advise if a fret levelling would be beneficial.
The work carried out during a full setup will depend on the features and condition of each individual guitar. A typical setup will include:
- All the work we do during string replacement (above)
- Tighten and/or lubricate all hardware and fixings as necessary
- Raise or lower individual string height at the nut
- Neck relief (truss rod adjustment) and neck angle
- String height and intonation at the bridge
- Check bridge saddles
- Tremolo balance (if fitted)
- Pickup height adjustment.
- Check wiring. Loose connections re-soldered and pots cleaned/lubricated
£50 excluding strings. We can supply strings at cost price or you can supply your own strings. As standard we fit D’Addario strings but can order other brands if preferred.
FRET LEVELLING
To get the best setup possible with accurate intonation and low action without fret buzz, the frets need to be level and properly crowned. A guitar with uneven wear between frets, or dents in certain frets will benefit from a full fret levelling.
Before levelling, we check for loose/lifted frets and make sure they are stuck down properly.
£100 including a full setup.
FRET REPLACEMENT
Replacing guitar frets becomes necessary when the existing ones have worn down from years of playing. Excessively worn frets can lead to issues like buzzing, dead notes, or poor intonation. This can make the guitar harder to play and affect the overall sound quality. Replacing the frets restores the instrument’s playability, ensuring smooth, accurate fretting and better tuning stability. Additionally, replacing the frets allows for the opportunity to upgrade to higher-quality materials, which can improve durability and tonal characteristics.
Depending on where the frets are worn we can offer a full or partial fret replacement. Once the new frets are fitted we will level and crown all the frets and perform a full setup.
The cost of a full fret replacement depends on a number of factors such as fret wire material, fingerboard material/binding or any other work that will be required such as fitting a new nut. Prices start at £280 including fret levelling and a full setup. Please call to discuss the work that is needed. We can advise on any likely additional costs and will provide an exact quote once the guitar has been inspected before any work is carried out.
